American Airlines does not require a car seat or restraint for children from 4 years?
I plan to travel to Texas this Christmas on American Airlines, and I have a 4 year old daughter. Obviously, she sits in a child seat in the car, but is it necessary a plane?
Car seats are never required but always a good idea. I am a former flight attendant and I bring my 5-year siege car in the plane with us when we fly. Why? Checking a car seat is a bad idea. It can easily be lost and / or broken in transit. The children are calmer and sleep better in their familiar seat. If you use it on board, it will not count against your baggage. It must be approved by the FAA, but almost all 5-point harness seats sold in the United States. The FAA also allows car seats to be used as long as the child still fits (our office is about 6 years). Http: / / www.faa.gov / other_visit / aviation_industry / airline_operators / airline_safety / info / all_infos / media / 2009/info09002.pdf seats or booster seats that need a belt, are not allowed, including seats that "convert". Just to give you an example, the Graco Nautilus is approved only when using the internal harness. There http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/ an alternative car seat, the device of "restraint," you may have been referring to. The CARES harness pictured above is particularly useful when you do not need to bring your car seat with you (eg someone is, you can use in Texas). They can be purchased or leased on eBay and Craigslist. Again, this article makes the flight safer, but not necessary. For more information, nine years ago, I wrote an article on this subject. It is based on my personal and professional experience of flying with children. There is a whole section on car seats to pass through airports. It is totally non-commercial and other parents from around the world have contributed; http://flyingwithchildren1.blogspot.com She's a good age for flying. In general, they love and are easy. Have a good Christmas in Texas!
