Are my windows were broken by stones, air rifles or bullets? 17ft glass covered and left a hole marble SZ

I had my windows broken twice in the last three weeks, and the cops think it's the children with stones. But surely throw a stone at the window of someone not cause shards of glass flying 17ft in my home. My father thinks it could be .22 caliber but I can not find pellets or bullets in my house! stones (or else!) The hole in the windows are marble-sized and have obviously led the rest of the window to crack. Please help as I really do not want to be shot! Oh please note that I am a citizen law-abiding, with no enemies know. I just want to know why I am being targeted and what I'm really dealing with! Stones? Air Rifle? Snipper?
